Sunday shortlist: Cherry Street Market, free WOW celebration, Les Mis closing matinee, and a Gillioz tour

Cherry Street Market this morning, last free Hunting & Fishing Day hours at Wonders of Wildlife, Les Mis closing matinee at the Landers, and a historic tour at the Gillioz.

Edition date

Sunday, September 27

Sunday stays neighborly: Cherry Street Market in the morning, a free celebration still running at Wonders of Wildlife, then a choice between Les Mis closing at the Landers or a historic walk-through at the Gillioz.

Cherry Street Market

Sunday, September 27 · 10am-2pm · free to browse

1423 E Cherry St · near Pickwick Place / Sleepy Opossum Coffee

Springfield Community Gardens hosts this weekly Sunday market - farm-school vendors plus SCG produce, easy to browse without buying a ticket first. Good parking-lot plan if you want something local before noon.

Best for: a low-key Sunday morning when you want farm goods without a ticketed schedule.

Hunting & Fishing Day at Wonders of Wildlife

Sunday, September 27 · 11am-4pm · free celebration

Wonders of Wildlife · 500 W Sunshine St

National Hunting & Fishing Day wraps with a Native American Heritage Celebration today - activities, food, drinks, and live entertainment on the WOW campus. The celebration itself is free and open to the public; that does not mean the whole museum is free, so plan the stop around the celebration hours above.

Best for: a free Sunday outdoor-recreation stop when you still want something beyond downtown.

Skip if: you only want a quick indoor museum visit with timed tickets.

Les Misérables at the Landers

Sunday, September 27 · 2pm closing matinee · adults $35-$60 + fees

The Landers Theatre · 311 E Walnut St · PG-13 · about 2 hours 50 minutes with intermission

Springfield Little Theatre's big mainstage closes with today's matinee. Buy on the SLT site only - they are the only authorized seller - and skip third-party ticket pages. Mature themes land about where the PG-13 rating suggests.

Best for: a sit-down closing-weekend matinee when you want score and spectacle over a short daytime plan.

Skip if: you need a sub-two-hour show or a cheaper last-minute plan.

Gillioz Theatre Historic Tour

Sunday, September 27 · doors 1:45pm · tour 2pm · $0-$10 · about 75 minutes

Gillioz Theatre · 325 Park Central E

A guided walk through the historic downtown theater - arrive about 15 minutes early, and know the route uses stairs with no elevator. Tours may cancel if fewer than four guests book, so check before you leave.

Best for: a downtown history hour when you want the building itself, not a full show.

Skip if: stairs are a problem or you need a guaranteed no-cancel slot.
